The third campaign of underwater and land research of Osijek Great Bridge
In the period from 11th to 15th July 2016 employees of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar conducted another campaign of archaeological research in the pond Small ?ola in Darda, where a wooden bridge stood in the 16th century. With leader and deputy Mladen Peši? and Luka Beki?, as archaeology divers participated Roko Suri? and Maja Kaleb, while land excavations was led by Šime Vrki? with contractors Marko Gaši?, Milan Suzi?, Krunoslav Markovi? and Marko Zagorš?ak. Assistance with sampling was provided by the expert from the Forestry Institute of Slovenia (Gozdarski inštitut Slovenije) Tom Levani? with Saša Stipani? from ZadarSub as technical support. Research was funded by the Ministry of Culture of Croatia, and this time there was a large support from the management of the municipality of Darda, whose employees helped in the archaeological research. In this campaign archaeologists took dozen samples of wood for dendrochronological analysis to determine the different time phases of renovations of the bridge.
