Research in the Bay of Vestar Rovinj

In early April a new campaign of underwater archaeological research was conducted in the Bay of Ve�tar near Rovinj. Research was conducted in the organization of the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, the Bavarian Society for Underwater Archaeology (Bayerischen Gesellschaft f�r Unterwasserarch�ologie) and the Homeland Museum of Rovinj. This year we surveyed the locations of potential third pier on the north of the bay and performed the initial trenching and documentation of the second pier. The first pier was investigated in recent years, and its use is dated in the 1st and the 2nd-century. Right now it is assumed that the second pier was in use from 16 to the 18th century. A continuation of research will bring us more information about the maritime history of this important anchorage.
